Which court reporting schools are the best to further your career? This is a question posed to many a court reporter student as they decide to enter into this exciting field first. It has to be understood that there are many different types of schools. There are community college programs that offer associate’s degrees. There are more traditional universities that also offer associate’s degrees in court reporting. There are standard, career training programs where there is no degree offered but a court reporting student may receive certification or some type of diploma . Other types are Online or distance learning home-based programs. Both of which could just be a diploma type program, which are usually taught at an accelerated pace and usually can be found in broadcast captioning or what is called Realtime reporting programs. The other type of program is more along the lines of traditional stenographer so it is vital in determining which type of school a student will go into. First they must understand that each state might require a type of court reporting is approved in their state. Most states will approve and have approved the steno type reporting, which uses the stenograph and reporters are required to do much more typing in keystroke. Not all states have approved Realtime reporting as a form of court reporting that can be done in legal proceedings or broadcast translation captioning. So one must first determine which state they’re going to live in or live in, and the requirements of that state.
